Group Expense with Ease service has been highly inspired by the SplitWise - we love the revolutionary idea of simplified debts.

Unfortunatelly what we don't particularly love about SplitWise is their latest pressure to buy pro features. For those who don't want to use application on daily bases but only few times a year we think Group Expense with Ease might be better alternative.

As you can see SplitWise offers more features while Group Expense with Ease is built with simplicity in mind. We don't offer all the blows and whistles but we focus on user experience and we built our service so it could sustain long periods without need of funding from ads.

Infrastructure and costs

Since we are providing this service free of charge we have built it on top of AWS serverless services so the cost is directly proportional to the number of users using the service.

In our architecture use following Amazon Web Services (AWS):

As we state in our mission statement, we want to be transaprent about costs and donations. Below is the montly breakdown of our cost and donations.

Users count is count of all users registered with the service - includes active and non-active users.
Cost includes all environments deployed to AWS (development, staging and production).
Donations are based on Ko-fi donations for the particular month - one time and recurring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Group Expense with Ease support payments form joined account?

Unfortnuatelly not.

However, there is a workaround for this. You can create two separate expenses - just divide the expense by two and create first expense which is paid by the first member of the joined account and second which is paid by the second member of the joined account.

Can I sent money to my friends via the Group Expense with Ease?

Unfortnuatelly not. All payments must be performed off the Group Expense with Ease

However you can set up your payment information in your settings so your friends will see for instance your IBAN every time they are going to hit "Settle up" button.

Can I split expense between my friends with different % of shares?

Unfortnuatelly not.

All of the expenses are being split between selected members equally. If you need this functionality you should checkout SplitWise.

What if the expense amount cannot be split between members? Who gets the extra cents?

When you want to split €1 between 3 members, each member gets €0.33 and the extra €0.01 is assigned to random member.

Why there is limit of 25 active groups? What that even means?

The limit exists because of the decision has been made when we've architected the service optimized for cost.

In real life you probably don't need more than 25 active groups at the single time.

You still can have more than 25 groups associated with your account - whenever you archive the group it does not count against this limit.

Archived groups will be deleted after 3 months automatically.

You can download data of archived group at any time.

What does it mean when I select currency when creating the group?

Currently you can select either € or $ currency when you are creating your group.

This currency does nothing special it is just symbol which is shown in front of your expenses.

We've tried it without currency but it looked weird, hence you get to choose from two currency symbols.

Does Group Expense with Ease support multiple currencies? Will my currencies be converted automatically?

For each group you can select your prefered currency.

Unfortunatelly there is no currency conversions and selection of currency just means that the symbol will be shown next to any money value.
